Abasaglar ® (basal insulin glargine)
What should I do if there is a Missed dose of Abasaglar® (insulin glargine)?
There are no specific recommendations what to do if a patient misses a dose of Abasaglar.
There is no one rule on what to do in the event of a missed dose of insulin, including insulin glargine.
Patients with a missed dose of Abasaglar should
- test their blood glucose and their urine for ketones as soon as any symptoms of hyperglycaemia occur
- monitor their blood glucose frequently
- do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose, and
- contact their physician.1
Physicians sould use their clinical discretion regarding resumption of Abasaglar dosing.
Factors that may be considered by physicians include
- the wide spectrum of disease progression
- individual dosing ranges
- time from the missed dose, and
- concomitant medications.
