Taltz® (ixekizumab): Transport and travel by patients

Ixekizumab should be stored at 2 ºC – 8 ºC also during travel. It may be stored unrefrigerated for up to 5 days at a temperature not above 30 ºC. During travel Ixekizumab should be kept in a carry-on luggage.

Storage conditions

Ixekizumab should be stored in a refrigerator (2 ºC – 8 ºC). It should not be frozen.1

It should be stored in the original package in order to protect from light.1

Ixekizumab may be stored unrefrigerated for up to 5 days at a temperature not above 30 ºC.1

The room temperature storage time may be applied cumulatively as long as the total time does not exceed 5-days (120 hours) per each device.2

Air travel

When travelling on a plane:

  • Ixekizumab should be kept in a carry-on luggage. It should not be packed with checked luggage. It is possible for luggage hold areas to have wide changes in temperatures. These temperatures may be too cold or too hot.
  • Changes in altitude that may be experienced when traveling do not impact the dose accuracy of Ixekizumab.
  • The screening equipment used at airports (X-rays) is not known to affect Ixekizumab. 2

We recommend contacting the airline to get more information on transporting medicinal devices containing needles.

Cooler bags

Lilly does not provide cooler bags to travel with Ixekizumab. Patients can refer to their pharmacist about finding a suitable product. Lilly does not test, market or sell these products, therefore we cannot recommend any of them.2

When using a cooler bag, it is important not to let the device be in direct contact with ice, frozen gel packs or freezing temperatures (0°C or below). The medicine should always be protected from light and freezing temperatures.2
