How should patients store Taltz® (ixekizumab) during transport and travel?
Store ixekizumab at 2 ºC – 8 ºC and in the original carton to protect it from light. Patients transporting medicine from the pharmacy may store it outside refrigeration for up to 4 hours. During travel, it should be stored in carry-on luggage
Transporting the device from the pharmacy
Patients transporting their ixekizumab from the pharmacy may keep it outside refrigeration
- up to a maximum temperature of 30ºC
- for no longer than 4 hours, and
- must refrigerate their medication once home.1
The 4-hour allowance for transportation from the pharmacy does not form part of the allowable patient-only, 5-day allowance for storage outside refrigeration.1
Storage conditions
- Store ixekizumab in a refrigerator (2 ºC – 8 ºC).
- Do not freeze.
- Store in the original package to protect it from light. 2
For patients only:
Ixekizumab may be stored unrefrigerated for up to 5 days at a temperature below 30º C.2
The allowable room temperature storage time may be one single 5-day exposure or can be broken up into multiple exposures. There is no limit to the number of room temperature exposures as long as the total time does not exceed 5 days (120 hours) for each individual device.1
Air travel
When travelling on a plane:
- Ixekizumab should be kept in carry-on luggage. Do not pack in checked luggage. Luggage hold areas may be too cold or too hot.
- Changes in altitude that may be experienced when travelling do not impact the dose accuracy of Ixekizumab.
- The screening equipment used at airports (X-rays) is not known to affect Ixekizumab.1
Travel cooler bags
Eli Lilly and Company does not provide cooler bags to travel with Ixekizumab. Patients can refer to their pharmacist about finding a suitable product. Lilly does not test, market or sell these products; therefore, we cannot recommend any of them.1
When using a cooler bag, the device should not be in direct contact with ice, frozen gel packs or freezing temperatures (0°C or below). In addition, protect the medicine from light and freezing temperatures.1
