Forsteo ® (teriparatide)

Forsteo® (teriparatide): Short temporary Interruption

The recommended dose of Forsteo is 20 micrograms administered once daily. The impact of a short temporary interruption on clinical outcome is unknown.

Missing an injection is not anticipated to cause withdrawal reactions.

Rate of compliance in the pivotal study

In the clinical trial investigating efficacy and safety in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, the average rate of compliance with the regimen of injections, assessed on the basis of returned medication, ranged from 79 to 83 % at each visit.1

In result, the known efficacy has been established including a number of patients who have missed some injections. Whether or not efficacy was different in patients administering all injections versus patients missing some injections, is unknown. 

Recommendation for forgotten or missed Injection

If you forget or cannot take Forsteo at your usual time, take it as soon as possible on that day.2

  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

  • Do not take more than one injection in the same day.

  • Do not try to make up for a missed dose.
