Abasaglar® (insulin glargine): Storage and Handling

Unopened Abasaglar Pens and cartridges should be stored in the refrigerator and opened Pens and cartridges should be stored at room temperature.

Dosage Form

Abasaglar is available as a 3-mL prefilled disposable pen or cartridge containing 300 units of insulin glargine.1

Storage and Handling

Do not freeze Abasaglar. Do not store Abasaglar next to the freezer compartment or a freezer pack. 

Do not use Abasaglar if it has been frozen.1,2

Protect Abasaglar from direct heat and light.3

Do not store the Pen with the needle attached in order to prevent

  • leaking

  • blocking the needle, and

  • air from entering the Pen.2

Store unopened Pens in the refrigerator3

Once in use, do not return Pens to the refrigerator as differential thermal cycles may cause insulin leakage and air bubble formation.2

Do not use Abasaglar after the expiration date (see Table 1).1
