Abasaglar® (insulin glargine): Missed dose

In the event of a missed dose of Abasaglar, physicians may use their clinical discretion based on the patient's situation.

Detailed Information

There is no one rule on what to do in the event of a missed dose of insulin, including IGlar.

Patients with a missed dose of Abasaglar should :

  • test their blood glucose and their urine for ketones as soon as any symptoms of hyperglycaemia occur,1

  • monitor their blood glucose frequently,1

  • do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose, and 1

  • contact their physician.1

For patients who miss a dose of Abasaglar, physicians may use their clinical discretion regarding resumption of dosing. Factors that may be considered by physicians include :

  • the wide spectrum of disease progression

  • individual dosing ranges

  • time from the missed dose, and

  • concomitant medications.
